How the project works

1. If youʼre interested in participating, sign up!
We will form two groups: one group of four adults, and one group of four kids (ages 10-20).

2. Meet as a group, receive new Nokia phones.
Adults and kids will meet together to discuss the project. Weʼll talk about what types of things you want to film to show what is important to you, and youʼll have a brief training on how to shoot video on the phone. Phones will be handed out at this meeting.

3. Shoot 10 short videos.
For three weeks, you will shoot 10 short videos about your life. Each video should be around one minute long.

4. Review videos & form an editing group.
After shooting videos, weʼll get together and talk about what the experience was like. Then weʼll form a smaller group (kids, adults, or both) who want to edit the videos together.

5. Get trained on video editing.
This will be a workshop for members of the editing group, where theyʼll decide how to edit everyoneʼs videos so they tell a story. Weʼll learn how to do this online and will plan things out on paper.

6. Edit the videos.
Together, the editing group will make edits to videos shot by adults and kids to turn them into one film.

7. Screen the edited film. Keep the phones!
When itʼs done, weʼll show the final film to the rest of your congregation. It will also be published on the project website (mgenerations.com) and the MIT website, with copies available on DVD. Participants who have successfully recorded 10 videos about their lives for this project can keep their phone!
